How I Get Free Traffic For My Website

How I Get Free Traffic For My Website

Spread the love

I’m often asked how I get free traffic for my website and in this series of blog posts I am sharing with you some of the easiest and most effective ways that you can get free traffic too. All you need to do is follow what we show you and put it into practice yourself.

As with all free traffic methods there is a significant amount of work required to see the results but the good news is that once you have the work done, it can continue to drive a slow but steady stream of traffic to your website for many months or even years!

In my first post of this series (click here to check it out if you haven’t seen it yet) we looked at sharing content on social media, using social media groups, and content sharing sites.

Let’s now move on at how I get free traffic for my website from a few other sources. This time we are going to look at how we can get traffic from other people’s websites.

Leverage Feedly

If you aren’t familiar with Feedly (https://feedly.com/) , it’s a site called an RSS feed reader, which basically allows you to aggregate news from a variety of blogs that you are interested in and follow.

For this tactic to work you simply get yourself set up with Feedly and then research as many different quality blogs as you can find in your niche and add them to your feed. This will then update you when new and interesting content is added to that particular blog.

When You see new content being added then visit the blog, read the post and reply with an interesting and helpful comment. Whatever you do, don’t post something banal like “great post”. This is one of my pet hates and anyone who posts something like this goes straight on to my “blocked list”.

By contributing an interesting, relevant and well-thought-out comment, you will attract the attention of others – both the blog owner and other people who visit the blog. If they think you are knowledgeable then they are more likely to try to find out a bit more about you, click on your links and visit your site.

It’s also a great way to find out what problems people in your niche are encountering and what questions they need answers to. If you can answer these questions on your own sites then you give people even more reasons to visit!

Write reviews and testimonials

Writing reviews of other people’s products is a tried and tested method of attracting people to your site by means of SEO but you can also use it as a means of introducing yourself to product owners and getting into their sphere of influence.

Once you have written a review, make contact with the product owner and tell them about your review and invite them to take a look at it. If you get a positive response from the owner then ask if you can write a testimonial for them.

Your testimonial can be either in the form of a video or a written testimonial which the product owner can then feature on their site. It’s common for testimonials to refer back to the website of the person who wrote the testimonial to show that they are a genuine person and that this is not some made up rubbish. Getting your website link mentioned on the sales page of a popular product can bring you traffic for as long as that product remains on sale.

If you want to see an example then take a look at the testimonials on the sales page for The Digital Marketing Launchpad book by clicking here.

Create a book for Kindle and list it for free

Many of us dream of becoming a published author and with the arrival of the Amazon Kindle platform, that dream is much more attainable. Anybody can now become an author and self-publish their written works as a Kindle eBook. In fact, you can also have your book printed and sold as a physical book via Amazon.

There are two schools of thought regarding using the kindle platform as a method of traffic generation. First of all you can go down the route of publishing your book and making it available for free. This means you don’t have to worry about creating a particularly long or beautifully well-written piece of content. (Note – this doesn’t mean you can publish something which is shoddy, very badly written or misleading). It just needs to offer some great advice or tips on a particular subject within your niche.

As you are listing it for free, nobody is going to complain or feel ripped off if they don’t like it. Being free also means that there is no barrier to people deciding to download it and read what you have to say. If your content is good then people are likely to click on any links you have included which can then bring them to your site to find out more about you and what you have to offer,

Free books can obviously be downloaded in large numbers and so potentially bring you a surge in traffic. However free books also attract a lot of tyre-kickers who just download anything that’s free and will never, ever buy anything.

The way around this is to sell your book for a very low price, e.g. £0.99 or $0.99. This will earn you a small stream of income, which is obviously a nice bonus. However, the very fact that a person has paid for something – even if it is just a tiny amount – means that they are a buyer and so will potentially buy other things from you too. A buyer is a much more valuable person to have coming to your site and getting on to your email list than a “freebie-seeker”

The downside is that even the small price is enough to deter many people and so your traffic from this method will be less than if you offer it for free.

How I get free traffic for my website

So there you have three more very simple but extremely effective methods for getting free traffic to your website. These do require a little bit of work to set up, but the more work you do now, and the more traffic sources you set up, means that all these seemingly small sources of traffic can add up to a considerable stream of visitors to your sites.

Try to eradicate the get-rich-quick mentality from your business and instead focus on building longer term and more sustainable ways of gaining traffic and building your business.

If you have any questions or feedback please leave them below and Heidi and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Good luck!

  1. Thank you for the great tips on getting traffic to your site. Some I am doing but some I haven’t heard of yet. I love the idea of writing a book on Kindle and never thought of this before. There must be an interesting topic that I can write about that others will want to read. I think it is best to get a small price for it though, as the quality of your traffic will be far better.

    1. Hi Michel

Writing a kindle book is a really sound way of getting traffic to your site. I completely agree with your comment about charging a small price for your book. It definitely gets you a better quality of lead coming to your site. If someone is willing to pay a small price for your book then they might well be willing to pay even more for something on your site!

      All the best

      Dave

  2. Hi David,

Since I am on a budget and I can’t afford paid traffic, your post means a lot to me. Getting traffic to our website and offers is the biggest challenge nowadays. And we all know traffic is the lifeblood of any business whether it’s online or offline.

At the moment, I am writing review posts and focusing on organic traffic. I get on an average 30 organic searches per day and I am keen to increase it, and your post gave me helpful insights.

Among the three methods I am missing the Feedly and this is on my list. Recently finished my eBook and I am planning to use it as a freebie. Great information, you have really given a lot of value here..

    1. Hi Paul.

Sounds like you are doing very well already. Getting 30 organic searches per day is an excellent result so you must be doing very well with your SEO.

I’m glad to hear we have given you some ideas to help grow your traffic with some of our great free methods. They work really well, and best of all they are all completely free to use!

      Good luck

      Dave

  3. Is Feedly a free to join site, or is there a fee at any time?

So if I do lots of reviews on products, how much traffic can I get, and when?

Do you have any other training material I can take a look at?

Is it also free to join Kindle and write a book, seems it might cost a lot?

    1. Hi Phil. Thanks for all your comments and questions. I’ll do my best to answer!

Feedly is free to join – it is simply a method for keeping all your blog feeds in one place.

Doing product reviews is fine but if that’s all you ever share you will be viewed as a spammer. It’s better to try to engage in meaningful discussions and share your expertise. If you can attract people to your site then they will be able to see more of your reviews

We have lots of training material available. You can access our free training book – 10 Proven Ways To Make Money Online in 2020, by clicking here. You can also check out our book – The Digital Marketing Launchpad by clicking here.

It’s also totally free to sign up for Kindle Publishing via your regular Amazon Account. No cost involved.

      Hope that helps

      Thanks again and good luck!

      Dave

  4. This all sounds so easy, David! Are you sure, that a complete newbie can do that?
I mean, I would love to create a book and offer it for free on kindle, but I wouldn’t even know where to start. Do you think that e book of yours, the digital launchpad could help me with that?
I just need to create something first to be looking for free traffic, is that right?
Thank you so much in advance.
I am very sorry to bother you with this complete rookie stuff,
    Thanks
    Jo

    1. Hi Jo!
Thanks for stopping by and taking an interest in getting free traffic for your website. I can assure you that everything I have talked about in the article is 100% newbie friendly. Anybody can do it – all it needs is the right work ethic to put in the effort.
Creating a kindle book and offering it for free is one of the best strategies – because relatively few other people know about it. If you can put together a collection of tips and strategies in your niche and then publish it on the kindle platform with links back to your site then anyone who downloads it for free can click your links and visit you.
Our book – the Digital Marketing Launchpad talks in detail about how you can create all sorts of products as well as market and sell them. Please check it out and feel free to come back to us if you have any more questions.
      Thanks again for your interest
      Dave

  5. Hey Guys! Have you been able to see or track anything successfully with feedly? Have you found it to be helpful at all? I’ve heard of several ways to share you blogs online and get potential traffic but never done it yet myself.

This is new to me and I am interested in how it may have worked for you.

    1. Hi Benjamin
Yes we have had some success in getting traffic using the feedly method described above. It’s probably something we should use more often but there is only so much you can fit into 24 hours! I know of one particularly well-known digital marketer who is a big fan of using feedly.
      Thanks
      David
