A quick search shows us that, “Motivation is the desire to act in service of a goal. It’s the crucial element in setting and attaining one’s objectives—and research shows that people can influence their own levels of motivation and self-control”. Is motivating yourself something you think you can handle? Are you currently making it work for you? If not, let’s talk about some ideas that might get you moving in the direction of motivation for success in your business!
A Change In Education
In the world of education, sometimes parents choose to send children to public or private schools. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Because each child learns differently, it is an option for parents to homeschool children. It’s becoming more popular these days it seems. However, one of the latest buzzwords surrounding homeschooled children is this idea of ‘un-schooling’. Essentially what that means is that if you were to pull your child from school to teach him at home, ‘un-schooling’ is the term used for the transition time before lessons begin at home. It’s a way for children to let go of the ideas of the school system.
Things like asking for permission to use the restroom, scheduled lunch, recess, work time, reading centers, raising hands, and other school-related things are tossed aside. There will be none of that in the home setting! Whether you agree or disagree, parents who are taking children out of the typical classroom setting and teaching from home have this time to allow the child to forget, so to speak, the rules from school.
Do You Have What It Takes?
I’m not a rocket scientist, but something tells me that you’re here looking for ways to make a living from home. That could mean you’re currently looking to leave your full-time 9-5 job, you’ve transitioned to part-time and are looking for a side gig, or you’ve already fired your previous boss and have high hopes and aspirations to boss yourself around from the comfort of your own home. Am I close? Regardless, you’re here now. Have you gone through the ‘un-working’ process yet? Surely that can be a thing if ‘un-schooling’ is! Have you taken a few days to have a heart-to-heart with yourself to write down your plan? What are your goals? Are you in the market for becoming an entrepreneur? Of course, you want a chance at being your own boss! You might find some tips here on how to begin the journey if you’re just starting!
Can You Handle It?
It sounds like a dream, doesn’t it? Being able to stay up late and sleep well into the morning. No alarm clock honking in your ear to drag you out of your cozy bed. Shoot, you could stay in your pajamas for the entire day, and chances are, you’d do just that, but you’ve likely got a delivery coming today from an online order. Pair that with your friend coming over for coffee and you know the pajama day won’t last too long.
But you can choose what will become of your day. You’re your own boss! But what’s going to happen when you go for days binge-watching your favorite Netflix series and you haven’t made any progress with on your business goals? Goals? Who needs them? You, my friend! Check out why goals are important for your business success here! It seems as though you have no motivation to carry through with your well-thought-of plans. Is it too late? Should you just sleep away some more sunrises and begin another series on Netflix? Heavens, no! You are better than that! Wake up, stretch, rub your eyes, grab a coffee, and find a comfy spot to relax. We’re going to talk about motivation and staying motivated in your business.
6 Top Tips To Keep You Motivated
* Make A Plan
Take a moment to get a pen and a piece of paper. For the next few minutes, write down where you’d like to see yourself in 6 months, 1 year, and 5+ years. Dream big. Set some goals that you know can achieve if you set your mind to. Choose some things that might surprise you if you actually accomplish them – these are the big goals that will get you to that destination! What’s in your plan? Be sure to include both short-term and long-term goals!
** Create A Routine
Now that you have some goals written down and you’re beginning to visualize what your future could hold, what will you make of your days at home? How are you going to accomplish those goals? Start small. What time will you wake up each morning? When will you begin your ‘duties for work’? Give yourself some ideas for what a day in the life would look like. Give yourself a little wiggle room. You are, after all, your own boss! When will you call it a day? Will you work on the weekend? Let your mind wander and write down some notes! You’re creating new habits!
*** Set Reminders
Calendars and timers are very important to your routine. Give yourself some time frames in your day to accomplish some things. For example, if you’re a blogger, you’ll need to spend some time collecting data or researching your next topic. If you’re a digital marketer, you’ll be reaching out to affiliate companies. You will have emails to attend to and other things in your day will no doubt creep in. Be intentional with your routine and concentrate on not spending too much of your time on one task.
**** Reward Yourself
If you’re anything like me, you’ll do well with setting some small goals and working toward a reward! It’s important to celebrate even the smallest of success! Set some social media goals. What will you reward yourself for when you reach so many followers? How might you reward yourself for creating content each day for 1-2 weeks straight? Maybe you’ll celebrate your first sale – you should! Will you take a vacation? No matter what, it’s important to keep yourself moving in the right direction, and if you’re motivated by rewards, be sure you include this step!
***** Establish Time For You
Don’t forget that you’re only human. You have friends who still want to hang out with you and you likely have a family depending on you! With all the hustle and bustle of your new self-employment, it might be easy to forget about the things that make you happy outside of your work. Set some time away from it all. You have to detach yourself every now and again. It’s good for a recharge! Go on a date with your spouse, take your children to the park, have a drink with a friend, etc. Do you – don’t forget who you are or cut yourself off from the world.
****** Stay Positive
All of your brainstorming and hard work would be for naught if you had a negative attitude or outlook. It’s critical to your success to remain positive. You will make mistakes and there will be obstacles. Can you overcome them? Absolutely you can – with the right mindset! Choose to look at the negatives as learning experiences! You’ll be better for it in the end. Look at the glass of water on your counter as half-full! That’s the positive thinking that will help you remain motivated! Be happy as often as possible!
