Success means different things to different people. As a digital marketer, I’ve had some time to reflect on what defines success to me. Perhaps after reading my tips, you’ll find something that will help you. After you’ve read the things I think make up success, you might have your own tips, which I would love to hear. There’s only one way to spell ‘success’, but there are many ways to achieve it. You, my friend, can find success as a digital marketer or entrepreneur!
But first, let me explain what you’re about to see. If you’ve followed me or our previous posts, you know that I’ve recently quit teaching. However, it is with that teacher mentality, I’ve created this post. I’ve often taught my students how to create an acrostic poem, specifically in order to help them remember important words or topics. In this case, I’m using the word SUCCESS to show you what it means to me and how I approach it in my business.
Certainly, as I’ve stated above, success looks different for many people. Success could mean financial freedom, meeting goals, creating and sustaining a business, or finding contentment and happiness in any given pursuit. In the world of digital marketing, there are certain things that I have set my compass to attain and I’d like to take a moment to share those things with you. My recipe for success may not look like yours; you might have to tweak the ingredients. However, I am convinced that if you set your mind to being successful, you will find a way. Who? Me? Yes! You!
Start – When I began my online business, I had no idea what direction to take. It seemed like there were roads leading everywhere and there wasn’t a map available to follow. I quickly realized that I just needed to begin somewhere. That’s when I found Wealthy Affiliate. The hardest thing to do sometimes is to begin, but I soon realized that when I found the right springboard, I quickly found out that the map I was looking for did exist. Utilize Every Available Resource – Research and learning are two critical steps on the ladder to success. It’s difficult to gain trust and authority if you appear that you’re unsure of what you’re trying to show others. For example, you’ll likely do a little bit of writing in your business. You want your reader to trust you. If you can back up your wisdom with proof, you’ll grow your authority naturally. What a great opportunity it is to be able to share with you one resource that I know you’ll benefit from. “The Digital Marketing Launchpad” is an eBook I co-authored with my friend, David. In it, we discuss many tools (all free) available to you so that you can learn how to create, market, and sell your own digital products. You’ll then be considered a digital marketer, once you have products available to others.
Create Relevant Content – It is said that ‘content is king’. Simply, that means that when you’re considering building a following for your brand, you’re going to have to produce written content. That looks different to many people. For me, I create content in the form of blogging. Whether you decide to blog or not, you’ll want to find a way to direct traffic to your website. Organic traffic is best in my opinion, as it’s free. Interested in ways to increase traffic to your website for free? Check it out here!
Consistency Counts – Something I learned early on (especially if you’re blogging), is that it is important to be consistent in writing. The more you write and publish your content, the more opportunities there are for people to find your work. When that happens, you build your audience. It’s important to update your material on a regular basis so you keep your information current and up to date for your readers. Old content that isn’t updated will, unfortunately, turn your audience away.
Educate Others – One of the greatest feelings of my success is being able to help others. My friend, David and I have worked together to create a helpful tool for others who are looking for ways to succeed in the world of digital marketing. We spent months doing research so that you don’t have to. When we created our eBook, it was with you in mind, friend. We wanted to create a guide that would help both rookie and seasoned entrepreneurs. We’ve also put together our tips and tricks on how to earn money in 2020. We love being able to help others; it’s one of our greatest passions.
Slow & Steady – A pill that all entrepreneurs need to swallow is that building an online business is something that simply does not happen overnight. It requires much work upfront to see results later. In fact, many give up early on and had they just continued a bit longer, they would have found that success was right around the corner. For me, it happened rather quickly, but I feel that being in the right place at the right time has had much to do with where I’m at. Learn more about my story here.
Stay Focused and Committed – Now that you’re aware that this type of gig won’t get you rich overnight, you should learn to enjoy the journey! The secret to becoming successful as an online entrepreneur is knowing that this is a marathon and not a sprint. The work will pay off in the end if you stay focused now. Creating lists of tasks helps keep me on track. I set goals that are attainable and make sure to celebrate even the smallest success. It’s important to acknowledge the smallest gains, as each step represents progress.
It’s true that we all have a definition of success in our own minds. What makes you successful might not be the same kind of success for your brother, your aunt, or your nephew. Just as no two snowflakes are the same, so it is with our own definitions of success. We often let our successes define us. Are you on the path to becoming successful? Don’t know where to begin? Do you want a life of financial freedom? A chance to learn about how passive income could create a different lifestyle for your family? Why not get started today? You can have success as a digital marketer!
Until Next Time!
“Don’t aim at success. The more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are going to miss it. For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side effect of one’s personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one’s surrender to a person other than oneself.
Happiness must happen, and the same holds for success: you have to let it happen by not caring about it. I want you to listen to what your conscience commands you to do and go on to carry it out to the best of your knowledge. Then you will live to see that in the long-run—in the long-run, I say!—success will follow you precisely because you had forgotten to think about it”
(Viktor E. Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning)
